Just planning ahead for the next couple of mths & got me musing. My chap is a bit of an all rounder, have done hunter trials, showjumped ( will be doing lots of this over next couple mths ) & last wk did our first dressage test.

I do enjoy showing & plan out getting out & about as much as possible but the problem is his height - He is approx 14.3 which is a tricky height as Im too old for pony classes and he would be dwarafed in the Hunter classes... The shows wont be anything high profile but would like to enjoy the local circuit..

Any suggestions??? Already planning on workers ... ( apologies, havent got any good enough to get full view of conformation )

Are you under 25? (I cannot see you clearly in the pics on my ancient computer....)

Maybe try Intermediate SHT but of course these sort of classes are not always held at local level:

Intermediate Show Hunter Type are horses exceeding 148cms but not exceeding 158cms - riders not to have attained their 25th birthday before 1st January in the current year

The Intermediate Show Hunter Type (SHT) classes are for ponies/horses exceeding 148cms but not exceeding 158cms and are for riders up to the age of 25, and these too have proved very popular with many top class Small Hunters competing with their younger riders.

lol, unfortunatly not:) nearly 10 years over the age limit!

Working Hunter, Riding Club horse, Equitation, Competition horse, Small hunter, Part bred whatever he is? Maybe Novice horse if you haven't yet won anywhere, Odd coloured, Utility horse, Tack and Turnout, there's a few for you, some local level some higher? He looks very smart, I love a good 'dunskin'!

Yes - to show a connie affiliated it needs to be 14.2hh, but am sure would be ok at local level.

Lovely looking pony/horse! I have had good sucess in local WH classes with my chap and he is a 15hh cob, so would give those a go.

Have fun!

Ah, he looks a lot like a smaller version of my new boy! I was discussing same thing about him the other day, mines Connie x TB but taller with skinny Tb legs! thinking RC horse, Riding Horse for mine, think he's is too light frame for Hunter classes but yours looks like he has a bit more bone. Handsome boy like mine, such fun!

If he is Connie, find a nice vet to measure him. If he only stands 14.3hh, you should get a 148cm certificate easy. He is gorgeous. Have proper pony envy!! There are some shows that do allow adults to ride ponies so long as 'the rider fits the animal', yes they are far and few between but they do exist. I'd go for SHP classes, if you can find them, although would be wary of putting him in a small hunter class, as those smalls, definitely are not small and are as broad as they are tall - I have one that is going to have to be a riding horse for this reason :( and also some of the old school judges may not like his colour. Yes they say a good horse isn't a bad colour but not everybody thinks like that. I think trailblazers allow adults to ride ponies in their showing classes (although will stand corrected on this). In love.com with him.

He has a lifetime measurement as a 148 but is defo bigger than that:) and thanks, he is a handsome chap,re colour am well used to judges who prefer solid colours as my mare is skewbald and we did fair bit of showing last yr. Unfortunately here in Ireland adults on pony classes are extremely rare.

He has a fair bit of bone! I'm going to a showing masterclass in couple wks with him so will be interesting to see what they think :)

At local pretty much anything in the schedule. He looks lovely and great fun if you dont plait him up and pull his mane short he could easily pass as a mountain and moorland and there is no age restriction on that. Riding horse, equitation, and riding club horse are another angle

Equitation is one I hadn't thought of! Looks like loads of choice for local so, shame he isn't a bit bigger for me to compete at a higher level:(

I dont think competition pony classes have age restrictions either or sports ponies so they are other classes which you could check out and if you get the bug do qualifiers for and they dont have to be registered to do so although he may well measure out but I again think that the height for them is actually 153cm

If he has a life height at 148 that is his height, yes he may stand up bigger when muscled up but I would stick with that as his height, it is almost 14.3 anyway, do some local M&Ms if they do not state registered only, RC horse would be ideal as he is the right type, if a little small, unaff workers sometimes have no age restriction but really get on and do what you bought him for, he will be super out SJ and eventing.

If hes pure connie then do the m&m's or part bred... I think at local level youll probs get away with it :)

orrrrrrr could you get someone under 25 to ride him for you and then do the show hunter ponies :)

Beautiful pony btw

I only found an ISRT after my jockey turned 25... Keep trying to think of a way of adapting her birth certificate

He has to be dna tested to confirm full Connie and I want to be the one to ride him lol until my daughter hits the right age:)
