I hope no one from Oz who is on this forum, or their familes is affected by the terrible devastation caused by the flooding. I have a friend who is trapped at her farm on highish ground between Lowood, Gatton, and Esk, and is surrouned by water. Now not heard from her in 24 hours so hoping she and all the animals are still safe.

The images just on the news are heartbreaking. Thoughts go out to all, and hope there is no more loss of life. There is some heroics going on to try and save animals, wild and domestic. The news has just had film of horses treading water with their heads resting on the guttering of a house to stay afloat (yes the water must be 10 12 feet at least deep where they are).

I saw that video of those poor horses on the news. It was heartbreaking. Thoughts going out to all in the area - hope everyone comes out ok xx

Dreadful, I read about the horses at lunchtime and have been thinking about them all day, as well as the family pictured on the roof of a car in the floodwaters. Just awful, thoughts are with all involved.

The images of the horses struggling through the floods and an interview with a woman sobbing as she managed to get only 4 of her 6 horses out and saw them washed away have been haunting me all day.

Also terrible stories about human loss of life too. Very sad.

so sad, devastating, it must be terrifying for those caught up in it. The vid of the horse was tear jerking, I hope something can be done to help those who have lost their homes very quickly.

I think the most heartbreaking news clip I saw earlier today was of the three horses near the roof, but one news clip showed one of the horses trying to climb up on the roof, got his front hooves on and part of his body and then flipped over backwards into the water and was carried down. Not seen this clip again today - and thank goodness as it was so upsetting. I've a friend working around that area and I've not been able to get in touch with him, so hope he's okay. It makes us realise doesn't it, just how lucky we are in this country when you see what's going on elsewhere around the world.

SorrelGray, those videos were amazing. Thanl goodness some things have had a happy ending in Queensland. I've been thinking about them all, humans and animals, all day.

Does anybody know if a relief fund has been set up for those affected by the floods?

If anybody can fight back, the Aussies will. I guess they're in all our prayers and thoughts tonight.

Hi, just in answer to your question. The queensland government has set up an appeal. Check out www.qld.gov/flood/donate.html for links on how to donate online or by internet banking.
I know that the queensland rspca is also desparate for funds.
Thoughts go out to all those affectedxx

One bit of good news. Just seen that the horses that were resting on the house roof were saved. Locals went in boats to guide them to dry land. Apparrently they all have injuries / cuts, some of them are badly hurt but they are being treated, fed etc.
Here's hoping they recover.

Oh thanks for that I was so upset to see them id wondered if they would make it or just swim untill they were exhausted and drown.. good luck to all in Queensland
stay safe, im thinking of you all and animals ....

Just heard from my friend, she is completely cut off and supplies are running low, though all the animals on her farm are safe too. But she said now petrol supplies are very scarce. It will be a mammoth task to get suppplies to all those away from the residential areas in more remote, rural areas. Thanks for the link to donate circe.

So glad those horses were saved, it really upset me to see them struggling like that!
My sis is in Brisbane, thankfully her home and family are ok but she says it is worse than what they are showing on tv, she only has enough food to feed herself for 3 more days, the water supply isn't safe now, the shops are shut or empty and the road networks are wrecked. It is just so awful. She is a nurse so is very busy caring for really poorly patients as many of the staff can't get to work. I just hope she can get some food.
