My horse sometimes looses impulsion and consequently looses a good contact at the front end. Two separate instructors have said I need to wear spurs. (We are currently working at Novice level dressage). I have tried her in the only spurs I possess from 30 years ago when I used to event. They are short and just flat edged. She absolutely hates them. She's quite a sensitive mare and I've got her to the age of 7 without ever seeing a spur but I do agree that she is taking the Mickey sometimes cos she knows she can. Anyone had experience with the roller ball spurs? Has any of you turned to the roller balls cos other spurs were too much. I have read that they are the kinder option for a horse but my mare is so bloody tricky. She's a quiet "worrier". You have to know her well to understand that she is quietly fretting. But at the same time, she will argue if she is that way out! For the record, I'm a very experienced rider that has worked with dozens of young horses over the last 35 years but this one is a challenge!
