A friend of mine is putting her mare in foal next yr, and was quite keen on putting her to Roulette or Pro-set, anyone have horses by either stallion?
And if so how have theirs turned out.
Temperment is most important.

Any info greatly appreciated.

I ride a gelding who is by ProSet. He is lovely!! Soft as grease. Very trainable attitude, quick to learn the right thing, but also the wrong thing or to have a tantrums.

Good jump, really progressing on the flat and not exciteable at shows.

He is out of an Irish mare I think

saw Pro-set at a clinic at Hartpury and was very impressed with the little muscle man. He moves beautifully and although showed some spiritness was trainable but with lots of personality. sorry don't know much about Roulette

Not sure on Roulette. But Pro-Set is a stunning horse. I have 2 of his offspring, one gelding and one mare and they are superb to deal with. Im sending two mares back to him this coming year. You wont be disappointed put it that way.

Well, the Supreme Champion at this year's Elite Futurity Final (a showjumping yearling) was by Pro-Set and one of the age group champions (an eventer) from last year was also by him.

I also selected a 6 week old foal by him )on eof his first cop I believe) to go to South Africa as a foundation sire for a new stud there and he subsequently became supreme champion of the in-hand section of their Horse of The Year Show as a 3 year old, then graded with the SAWHA and is now the top 7 year old dressage horse there.

IOW he produces super athletic horses that can move well and can jump and go on to do well under saddle as well and although he himself is not very tall he can throw much bigger to a big mare. PS is now with Maria Eilberg and is doing very well with her I understand.

I'm afraid I don't know much about Roulette.

For my money I'd go for Pro-Set every time. Don't get me wrong Roulette is a nice horse

Out of interest why is your friends selection limited to those two? Is it location?

Totally agree with CISS saw some lovely PRO SET young stock, athletic for sure with lovely movement.
We did see a couple of the Roulette babies too.... not that athletic and a little oldfashioned. I think they would be interesting on more 'blood' horses. Interesting to see what happens with a TB mare ?

My yearling is by Pro-Set out of my IDxTB mare

I would use the combination again without hesitation... he has such a fantastic temperment, is the love of my life and moves beautifully. I am so thrilled with him, and to be awarded a 1st Premium at the BEF Futurity this year was a confirmation that he truly is everything I could have hoped for!
