A high volume breeder of ok stock. Puppies reared in decent conditions but not in the home.
Their knowledge of colour genetics is flawed as per their own web page.
Classic use of buzz words to befuddle a prospective purchaser.
I was looking under the "breeding policy" on the home page, only mention of eye testing their dogs on there. It seems they hip test the stud dogs but not the bitches perhaps...
"all copperwheat dogs are hip scored at one year"...meaning dogs as in male and female;eye testing covers PRA and he even Optigen tests as well..looks a good breeder to me.
What to think? From the website, I came away with thinking that it may have been a rather wooly approach, but whilst I wasn't desperately impressed, importantly there was nothing negative to say, either. I suspect that there isn't a huge amount of experience, but on the positive side, attempts are made to do things properly.
Would I buy a puppy from them? If I liked the parents, then yes, certainly. I have serious issues with the breeding of Chocolate Labradors (we'll be getting them in avocado next), but otherwise, I suppose that it was ok.
I've no issues with the breeding of colour - as long as the parents are health tested and both parents can be seen with pups, and all dogs and pups look healthy I wouldn't be concerned about the fact that they used kennels, as long as the kennels were same as in the description on the website and not in a bad condition or anything.
