been looking for something to help my shetty 9month olds skin and coat, hes has mud fever and lice, his skin is quite dry so need something to help him along. emailed baileys but they told me to get stud mix (but i’m not doing that i don’t want ocd.) after research i think linseed might be good as it is natural (don’t want to be feeding him nuts or anything). would micronised or oil be better (micronised has more protein right?) and what would i feed it in? he is not currently on any bucket feed.
thanks in advance

I wouldn't feed a Shetland on much other than hay tbh. If you get rid of the lice, he will feel and do much better. I believe that Equimins (or maybe ForagePlus) do a pelletted balancer, so it might be worth you giving him that to try to combat the mud fever.

both equimins and FP do pelleted balancer, that is what I would give at this stage too.
I am a big fan of micronised linseed for reasons too, but it never helped any of our skin issues and I'm not sure I'd rush to feed it to a 9 month native.

Please, dont feed him unless your vet has advised on medical grounds, natives are not designed to take on extra rations. Hay is fine :)
Treat the lice with deosect or whatever your vet recommends. I'm sure you'll find that his coat will improve with a quick daily brush over to encourage the natural oils, and will improve again once lice are gone :)

Another one who would have him on equimins as well. I have found linseed to be good for coat and skin conditions so would be tempted to add a small amount. I was feeding a 50ml scoop to my good doer who used to get horrible scurfy skin. At this time of year they can really be lacking in omega 3 which you can get from linseed. Micronised is better. You could add it to a tiny bit of straw chaff so theres something to carry it in.
