Really enjoyed watching the xc today- a very enjoyable afternoon!

Beautifull rounds ridden by Mary and Zara. Was gutted to have missed watching Daisy's round as it sounds as though it was just superb.

Oli I thought rode fantastically and with much more maturity- everything looked textbook and it was so unlucky for him to have had that stop. Flint was a tad ungenuine there tho I thought....

Georgie did not seem to be riding with any conviction whatsoever, was rather a passanger, that was a shame because her horse looked superb but needed her rider to give her more positive guidance.

Vittoria rode a cracker, Bug looked just awesome-but how fast were they going at the beginning! He is such a pocket rocket.

Galan was just in a class of his own....

Fabio Magni just rides sooooo beautifullly- he has always had a real innate sense of rythym and timing.

Was just gobsmacked at the standard of riding from some of these Russian/polish/ austrian riders! They looked like they'd only ever had one riding lesson in their lives!

Also a few of these horses looked seriously unfit- some with actual grass bellies- as tho they'd just come out of the field and consequently did not have enough left to finish the course.

Any other thoughts/comments?

I thought Georgie rode well. It appeared as if the horse tired and when she was interviewed she was suspecting that the horse may have pulled something. Lets hope not.
It was a joy to watch the french horse Galan and his rider, he didn't interfere with or press the horse who just ate up the ground.

certainly caused problems didnt it!!!

i thought the brits rode fantastically (me? biased?) although georgies horse did seem to tire all of a sudden which was a shame. Some of the riding though seemed very out of place? i cant remember what country the girl was representing but she was on a stallion (warmblood type i think) and got pulled up - she was sat on the poor horses back all the way round

there also seemed to be a lot of riders riding rather long?

And, is it just me being a wuss or was the speed some people came into some of the fences was totally inappropriate? fair enough on landing you kick on and gallop inbetween but surely its safer when approaching a tricky narrow combination to sit up, shorten your reins and collect up a bit?

Look at me critising people riding in the europeans lol

Pretty similar thoughts to you Dof D, the Russian girl was scary, something make me think that bribery and corruption and a large wallet to pay for the horse got her the place in the team, it certainly wasn't her riding- worse than your average PC C tester.

I loved the silver grey with the huge jump, ridden by the dentist (not Logistik, think this one was Italian, what a horse)

The Brits were generally great, though really think that RP's horse was overfaced. Not a Georgie fan at all, but for personal reasons.

My OH from the interview felt that Georgie came across as a bit of a brat thought that was an odd thing for him to say as my OH is the type of person who thinks pretty much everyone is a nice person.
Rodney Powell I felt it was a year too early.
Mary sometimes I just feel her position is over defensive and I think it sometimes looks like the horse hollows instead of rounding.
Daisy and Zara rode good rounds and OT riding was fine.

Am i the only one who was dissapointed in OT then

Flint Curtis finished knackered and he was still seeing long ones at the end of the course!!

That French gray horse is in a class of it's own, amazing to watch, it took nothing out of him and was an effortless perfectly ridden round to watch..

Am also inlove with the huge bay horse ridden by the tiny girl early on (around the same time as Daisy), what a smart horse!!

There were loads others that i loved, but i can't remember any names!!

Had my heart in my mouth when Austin o'Connor went on 2 strides through the skinny logs to ditch.. oops

I agree about RP, although I do think that if he had nutured the horse a bit more and just slowed him down a fraction he would not have had those runouts, Darcy was aimed very fast&unblanced at that skinny that he had one of the run outs on. But a championship is not the place for nuturing horses round.

Am still mesmorised when I think of how awesome Nicolas and Galans round was. Ive only ever seen him ride that tense bay horse that he had last year and did not think much of his riding at all thought he looked rather hard and out of tune with the horse. But not so on Galan!

Interesting about Georgie LEC! But then again radio/TV interviews never bring out the best in people- I remember when I had to do an interview for TV once and I know that I came across as absolutely awful !!

the Russian girl they red flagged was like a bad riding club standard, truly shocking... thank god they stopped her. i thought OT was riding okay, more maturely than usual, but that he was a complete idiot to try the last skinny. he rode a bit ropily after that, i think. Zara should have been allowed to go at least one of the 2 tricky routes... NT deserves to win for having had the guts to go direct at the flower beds, and jump the first Slide skinny.
Daisy's round was excellent, as was Mary's... again, i'm disappointed that she didn't go one of the two tricky routes.
Bettina shrieking at her horse makes me absolutely mad. Jeez.

she started it a while back, after it did its odd stop. she shrieked at it going into the last water, at the turning trak thingy with the guard rail (where Toytown stumbled), a few other places maybe. i wouldn't mind if she growled at it, but she SHRIEKS at the top of her voice and it is SO unprofessional. i doubt it has ever ever made a horse jump a fence!
she did the same thing at WEG and at Athens iirc. i just hate it.
but then, she's not my favourite rider, so...

Apart from the shreiking I thought she actually rode a better round than normal! I believe the shouting is more for her self confidence as cockatoo doesn't seem to even twitch an ear! He finished full of running, looking confident and didn't have any heart in the mouth moments which most others did at some point.

Lovely round from NT with Galan but when will he ever learn that dropping his reins over the finish is not going to make him very popular apart from the fact that it isn't fair on his horse.

oh god yes, riding across the finish with reins dropped and flapping, horse allowed to drop onto forehand when tired... especially since that horse has had soundness problems in the past. WHY on earth do people do it? it makes me see red every time. he doesn't deserve a horse as wonderful as that, i do!!

i agree about Bettina riding better than usual. i don't think she'd have managed the direct routes at flowerbeds or slide, whereas i think Zara would have, also Mary. shame they didn't get a crack at it.
