Hi, a bit late I know but my test tomorrow has a 3 loop serpentine in a 20x40 arena. I got knocked for inaccuracy last time out so does anyone have any tips on getting the loops the right size, please.
Aim for half way between the side letters (so if coming from A on left rein between F and B), make sure you just clip the middle letter with your curve. and it is very important that you get straight to go straight across the arena before changing the bend for your curve at the other side. Seen plenty of people do strange diagonal lines instead.
Work it out so the middle (vortex?) of the 2nd loop be at exactly E or B, depending on which way you are going, this way you are dividing the school up into exact thirds. Always worked for me anyway! Good luck.
Think 15m circles with straight lines joining them up... you want to be half way between m and b (for example ) but think of it as riding a half circle rather than a turn and you should arrive on the line then push forward so horse trots straight for a few strides before setting the horse up for another 15m half circle (or 13m if you want to be exact about it ) push straight again before asking for another bend and the final 13 m circle... but divide the arena into 3 splitting it between the middle letter and the end letter ...
