Three round spots appeared on new pony

Hi we have a new pony (2 weeks with us) she has over the weekend whilst we’ve not been here developed three little bald spots on her one shoulder just below her withers. One had a scab on which I picked off and one is fairly circular and looks pink but not red. They are not painful or bothering her. She seems in good condition apart from them. What do you think they might be?

Ringworm sprung to mine too. Buy some Imaverol and treat asap just in case. It spreads like mad so I would isolate too for now and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching her and don;t share any kit. Ginny developed ringworm after she came to us but we nipped it in the bud and it was no big deal in the end. Thye worst part was telling the YO of my suspicions!!

We had a few odd spots like this on our boy recently which turned out to be a particular type of fly bite - but they were not completely circular and had a solid cream / white core like an adolescent spot. (Not a maggot - I know about those.) But in your place my first thought would be ringworm. (as it was in fact for my boy...) It doesn't annoy the horse overmuch and most resolve spontaneously in about 6 weeks -although it can leave permanently discolored patches of hair. But the main issue is that it spreads like wildfire and annoys everyone else. It will also pass to humans and any other mammal.

I would go slightly further than Amber's suggestions. Wash your self, wash all kit. Keep her rugged and disinfect rugs regularly. Don't turn out with others unless she is rugged - and only then if the YO knows and allows it. You might want to wash down her stable walls with Virkon once the infection is treated. And your trailer if you transported her. (To be really fair you probably should tell whoever did transport her too)

It isn't that ringworm is particularly serious in and of itself - it just spreads massively and if you don't catch it early and clean everything really thoroughly it will hang around for ages going from horse to horse, to human to cat etc.

Thanks for advice. Treated her and her rugs. Luckily as she is new she’s only been out alone so fingers crossed and not been stabled yet either. Fingers crossed I’ve caught it quick enough.
