This is probably a stupid question but anywho!!

The spring grass has got to henry and he seems to be very lively at the moment. I can stand lively but I can't stand head throwing. He is constantly chucking his head all around the place. I give him a long rein and he just takes off with me. We try to be in the front of the ride as much as poss but it never makes a difference because he still head throws when I am alone or in school alone

He wears a martingale, he's had all manor of checks and things, am going to by a stonger bit as he is very strong atm but that will cause his head to be higher anyway. His most recent joke is to bolt and hold head really high so that when I try and pull back he clamps his mouth so it doesn;'t hurt or affect him in anway way

Any tips on a completely nutty pony atm lol !!

go back 2 basics... i did that with my pony...

pelhams are always gd... thats what i use she fights it a bit but then realises its not worth the hassle

u could always lunge him or free school him first??

Try a nose net - it may be the pollen etc getting to his nostrils/airways etc. It helps head-shakers for these reasons - and dust etc. It just stops things getting in so should help!

It might be unwise to go stronger, he may object and try a nosenet first!

yea and that

i didnt do that as i knew she was just being a pain and would freak more at the nose nets... try not 2 use a gag they tend to lift the head!

I lunged him the other day doing lots of trotting and cantering and a few large jumps, and after about 20 mins I got bored and stopped, thinking he was worn out, yet he still bolted off with the lunge line...grrrr!! Lol!! Just conquered catching him and now something like this happens, it panics me too therefore I lose all confidence and interest in riding

oh ok

well that happened 2 me 2

i really dont know just have 2 play it by ear and take it slowly, if u can!!

i had a gr8 instructor who gave me loads of confidence

but it was mainly cos she had sore teeth and a sore back so we got that sorted and she had a few weeks to settle in and then we lunged and i rode bareback and it devloped from there really
cos shes my first and that all happened when we first had her... so it could be different for you

natural horsmanship works
so does naf magic !!!

Yeah doing a little natural horseman ship atm and its fab but obv need to try more for this particular problem. He's always had a back problem, but apartenly this has nothing to do with that so I'm told by instructor

I will see what I can do with my naughty little boy!! He;s probably trying it on, anything to get back out in the field and eat me! Lol thanks for your suggestions and help

may get shot for this but what about a standing martingale. used it on a tb till he learnt he couldn't do it. after a few chucks he gave up!!!

I would get the chiropractor out no matter what your instructor says. The chiro will alo be able to tell you if the saddle is a good fit too. Maybe try a hanging cheek bit? The poll pressure might encourage his head down, lunging over trotting poles and riding over trotting poles gets them working lower and more streched (if you see what I mean). A nose net might work too, they work wonders with head shakers!
Hope this helps!

wht bout limiting his energy intake

and i know its gunna be hard but if he tanks off. hold the contact and squeeze wiv ur legs ... he will slow down trust lol

and shaking his head if it nt 2 dangerous jus sit and wrap ur legs round, they soon give up if they know ur not fazed by it

and back ppl are gd lol

jus try what u can... or u could get someone else 2 ride if he scaring/putting u off riding
