Got my mare in from the field to find her with a large swelling around her cannon bone and fetlock on one of her hind legs. Checked it all over and no signs of a kick or bash and no little nicks where bacteria could of got in. Trotted up sound but obvious heat spot on inside of cannon half way down. Decided to go for a walk up the lane to see if I could shift the swelling as she was comfortable. Got back. Leg hadn't gone down at all and still had heat spot. No signs of pain on palpation or lameness. Put ice boots on for 20 mins. I haven't bandaged or Buted as she seems comfortable and I want to see what it does over night while she's in.
Any ideas what it could be? She has thrown a split on the other leg but it didn't swell like this. She's 6 but only been in work 8 months so it wouldn't be a surprise if she threw one but just worried it's something more sinister.
