On the topic of thrush at the moment. My boy has it a lot and is very prone to it. Out of using purple spray, iodine and stock holme tar which would you say is the best for getting rid of thrush?

My youngster has had thrush recently & it got quite bad, scrubbing with iodine daily & gold label frog oil spray seem to be getting on top of it. Since getting the gold label stuff I read good things about the red horse products so I'm going to try some of their products over winter for him to keep on top of it as it was caused by extended box rest & I think he may remain in quite a lot this winter,I also want to try their stuff on my older horse who lives out & his feet got a bit thrushy last winter.

I use watered down dettol to keep it disinfected, then peroxide once a month (or less if needed) to keep it at bay. Be especially careful to get into the sulci and right down around where the shoe meets the hoof when picking out

Red horse products are good - I've used the 'hoof stuff' to very good effect on central sulcus thrush when nothing else (including all the things you mention in your original post!) had worked x

Another vote for Red Horse, they have a range of products that cover all the scenarios with thrush. The only things that worked when I had a horse with persistent hoof problems.

scrub out with dilute povidine-iodine, daily at first then weekly. my youngster came with quite bad thrush last year and after trying various red horse products etc this is what worked. I dilute 10% 1/10 for use.

Bear in mind thrush is a fungus so if you also have secondary bacterial infection then this will also be effective. Why not tackle the lot.

I know, I have dealt with thrush on numerous occasions, I did say it is one of the things I use, that is not saying it is the only thing just one thing I have used, and with some bacterial infections you have to use other things like metronidazole

Foot and master with violet from nettex, good for sheep and works well with horses hooves. daily until sorted then i spray once a week or so. Don't forget to were gloves

OK, please, no need to be aggressive. I was just saying its good to tackle all angles.

I am using Pete's Goo and iodine at the minute. Seems to be working. I haven't tried any other products, just because I haven't been able to get my hands on any. I have some Red Horse products coming soon. So will see.

Some thrush products are too harsh, so you end up killing healthy tissues, which gives the fungus more dead stuff to feed on and it becomes a roundabout.

Red Horse products are good.

I use purple spray that I get from my vet - though it looks more blue! My friend used hydrogen peroxide , even though it did get rid of the thrush very quickly - I really wouldn't recommend it , as it damaged the horse's hoof badly aswell !

Yep,be careful when applying Hydrogen Peroxide. I use a syringe to make sure I get the right areas.
