You need to keep the horse off dirty bedding. Scrub feet with salt water, wait till feet are completely dry then treat with either iodine and eucalyptus oil (this was my farriers suggestion) or Caneston (yes the human one

). This needs to be done daily. You could also flush with Hydrogen peroxide it will fizz all the gunk out, but needs to be diluted and althought this is a traditional and effetive treatment, shouldn't be done too often and needs to be rinsed off (my farrier doesn't recommend hydrogen peroxide).

agree with above, you could always try a spray that treats foot rot in sheep and cattle, can't remember the name of it but it was green in colour, that worked well but does stain concrete so be careful where and how much you spray it. The other thing I used was Pethadine diluted in wwater and then scrubbed the feet well with it. good luck in dealing with it.
ETS: be meticulous in feet picking out as this will help immensley, you could have ate your dinner of Higgs feet by the time I'd finished with them

it can be time cnsuming dealing with thrush, I used to spend more time on his feet than grooming him but it was worth it as I kept it under control. He had very deep boxy feet so was rather prone to it despite his bed being immaculately clean

Hey my horse rosanna has thrush and my vet/farrier told me the following things;

No.1.Keep keet clean and pick out at least 7 times a day

No.2.Keep off dirty bedding

No.3.(personal opinion) I would get some new shoozles for that horse nothing to do with the thrush (no offence)but theyre pretty worn down.:(

Please keep me updated on how the horses is and what advise u get

as long as its for foot rot then it will be fine. Just make sure before applying it that the foot is 100% clean - if you scrub it out first with a water brush and water this will get everything out that doesn't come out with a hoof pick. Let it dry for a minute or two and then apply. good luck, let us know how you get on.

Hi, and welcome.
My horse had thrush when I bought her 4 yrs ago, and I find that I manage to keep it at bay with the nail hole disinfectant made by Keratex.
It seeks deep into the frog and keeps it good. I am very pleased with the results I get from this. When I turn her out every day, I put stockholm tar over her frog and heel for extra protection, and if there is any sign of black stuff when I pick her feet out, then I give them a squirt with the NHD.
I hope this helps.
Thanks

hydrogen peroxide works well
clean the foot
put some in a syringe (no needle) and apply it to the affected parts being careful not to squirt to hard - let it fizz, then put the foot down

make sure it doesn;t spray up into your face

Hi, recommend Hydrogen Peroxide, you can get it from any chemist and it's cheap.... Doesn't take long to clear it, just try and keep it as clean as possible... Good Luck..
