Thrush

I used hibiscrub and purple powder when Kal developed smelly feet after box rest . . . worked a treat and farrier was very pleased with him.

The sterilising solution used for babies bottles, such as Milton, poured neat onto the sole and brushed thoroughly into the crevices of the frog/hoof daily will get rid of thrush :D

Neat bleach could cause damage to the frog and heel and would almost certainly cause irritation:eek:

Been using bleach for years. So has my farrier. With no problems. Also hibiscrub and iodine. Whitfield's ointment is salicylic and benzoic acid mixed with Vaseline

Any ideas on what is the best thing to get rid of Thrush?

Not sure my horse has it but think she might have.

If it's thrush the area around the frogs will smell when you pick the foot out, it may be black in colour and mucky too. The cheapest and one of the best things is hydrogen peroxide- you can use a plastic syringe to syringe it in (if you haven't got a syringe a splash of it can just be poured on neat) and around the frogs when the feet are dry and clean, hold foot up for 30 seconds and let it fizz up and draw the muck out, do that once or twice a week and it should help, you can get the hydrogen peroxide in most supermarkets/chemists for less than a £1 per bottle.

Also footmaster spray is very good, if its really yucky and weeping you can apply a poultice to draw it out for a couple of days or a vet can give you an antibiotic spray if it's really bad.

Keeping the frogs well trimmed back may help, and the feet clean and dry, sand can also be an irritant too.
