I've seen it in H&H, can someone please tell me what a 'thruster' is?

The dictionary definition is a rider who keeps at the front of a fox hunt.

Looking at the photos my definition would be someone who jumps immensely scary fences sometimes side saddle and always looked beautifully turned out on a lovely horse.
