Thunderbrooks verses Simple Systems

I wouldn't touch TB with a bargepole. They weren't allowed to be discussed on here for a while because of how abusive and aggressive the owner was to anyone who dared question what the ingredients and analysis of their feeds were. I don't know if that's changed but you might find that this post gets pulled because of them

I didn’t know that either. I knew their was some controversy on FB but not here! I’m not buying anything that I can’t see the ingredients of.

Ive heard of them , just never used them, but on their website they clearly list ingredients and analysis of their feeds.
If i was in the uk id give them a try...they even do organic feed, non GMO...sounds like a promising company....maybe they were terrible at listing the ingredients when they started up?

No, they deliberately hid the contents.

I'm another thats very surprised that this is still here. Eddie likes to follow me around social media making threats to me and getting threads removed. I have the messages to back up this claim if anyone would like to see them.

For anyone interested in using them, give them a call, and when they finish their spiel ask Debbie a question, anything you like so long as it needs an answer that doesnt make TBs sound like magical unicorn dust, and watch them go off on one and verbally attack you. My local feed store no longer stock it as he was vile to them as well and they considered it over priced and wasnt selling. This was said to me directly in a conversation with the manager.

Thunderbrooks are not allowed to be mentioned on many, many facebook groups and smaller forums as Eddie causes such huge problems for the admin that its just not worth it.

Agrobs and Emerald Green are good alternatives. There are others as well.
 
I feed Agrobs. Lovely stuff. Only feed a mug full.

*whispers* I do feed something else with it. It should not be a good feed, I thought it was a con, I was persuaded to try it anyway, and it does actually work, although I can't see why that is. It is LamiGel. From what I can see it is powdered alfalfa. Funny really as I previously tried to avoid alfalfa. But, it seems to produce calm and happy horses. A mug of each, fed wet enough to resemble liquidised soup and mine is a happy girl and looks great. I am not sure if the powdering breaks up the alfalfa enough that it does not cause issues. I am unsure if the sloppiness is what keeps horses happy, but there, that is my dirty secret. I am Red-1 and I feed a feed that should not work!

OP what do you need, we can make suggestions :p.

I'm well aware of TBs behaviour and legal threats, iirc recently they weren't initially great in dealing with a contamination issue either.

I KNOW!!!! I did try to call them once for advice. The instructions for making up the soup had 2 amounts, one for the dry powder and one for the water. One measurement was in volume, the other in weight. Being as I don't actually have a weighing scale in my tack room, and water weighs the same all over, I asked for both amounts in volume. You would have thought I was talking alien! They got a bit cross. In the end, I looked at the sloppy product on a video on their FB page and now just slop water onto it until it looks right.

I didn't want to buy it, but had my arm twisted up my back. The bloomin' stuff has worked for mine and other people who I have shared the dirty secret with! Happily, my local saddlers sells it. I get it under cover of darkness LOL.

He then makes out he’s the victim of Facebook bullying and abuse.
I spoke to one feed merchant and they were not impressed with his strong sell tactic, hence they won’t stock his feed.
 
TB also run a barefoot group on FB, they are NOT upfront about the fact they're admins so they can get away with having their feeds recommended all across the group, and ban anyone who disagrees with them including trimmers who are helping barefooters but aren't necessarily in Camp TB. Mostly good foods from what I can tell but it seems even that is in doubt from the above posts.

St Ippolyts (sp?) is supposed to be good too, I think kind of a UK version of Agrobs. I loved SS forages when I was feeding them (years ago) but would probably look to someone like Forageplus or Progressive Earth for the vit/min component.

I came across them during an argument where they would absolutely not concede that their balancer might not be ideal for all situations (it was a copper/zinc argument if correct) even though it was some very good people suggesting that an alternative might be better for a particular situ.
 
I used simple systems many years ago. Their total eclipse, after having grass analysed it was recommended to stop the seaweed so I now buy linseed and brewers yeast separate. I also have found that emerald green nuts/chaffs are much cheaper and probably the same as simple systems
 
Oh no :( I feed TB and really like it for J but now I'm concerned. he doesn't get more than a handful twice a day. Any other recommendations? I've tried Simple Systems but the balancer smell made me gag and the horse look at the food like it was toxic waste.

I wouldn't recommend the balancers, see the posts above for recommendations of others (forageplus or Progressive Earth was my recommendation), I would always recommend iron-free supplements. It can take a while for horses to make the switch, it's like feeding your child cake for years and then insisting they eat broccoli. Apple cordial, mint flakes etc can help make it palatable, and always switch over very gradually.

Which FB group is this? I am just taking my two barefoot and have joined a Barefoot group on FB.
 
I use emerald green meadow magic. Its half the price and is equally palatable. SS is very heavily alfalfa based from what I remember and it doesnt agree with my pony.
 
It's the Barefoot Horse Owners Group UK.

To be fair, he's not really active in the group like he was. It used to be the case that he would publicly comment a lot, was quite abusive to me as I didn't know who he was. There's a lot of good genuine people on there, just take any recommendations for TB with a pinch of salt as there is a slight bias. I'm more uncomfortable about how much trimming advice is given on the basis of one photo.

TB were also really nasty in the days when they didn't list ingredients on the site and I emailed. I had a horse with allergies was looking for suitable feeds. I was working with my vet and had a list of things to avoid. Got a really rude email back basically refusing to list and that they knew better than me and my vet what my horse should eat.
