thyroid problems in dogs?

Hi
Does anyone have any experience with this? My 6 yr old terrier is miserable and down. He is aggressive, snappy, starving all the time and gets hard skin on his neck.
He used to be such a happy dog. He gets a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, the run of the garden for most of the day.
I know we can get him bloodtested, but my vet listened to his heart and said it is fine, unlikely to be thyroid?

Get him tested by the vet.
If that all comes back as normal i have an address that you can send a sample to who do much more indepth tests cause even a little imbalance can mess up a dog.
Also it may be worth checking for lymes disease.

My Dobie has a Thyroid problem - she developed bald patches on her flanks, was quite depressed, starving and hyper actice, so the vets did a skin scrape which came back clear, so they ran bloods and found the problem.

She is now on medication, the patches have almost gone, she is slightly less hyper than she used to be, but still feels the cold, which is apparently another symptom.

I think if you are worried, it might be a good idea to have his blood tested.
Hope you can sort it out.

Our old dog has a thyroid problem, he is now on Solexin and much better, has to have blood tests every 6 months and dose adjusted if need be.
But we can tell if it isn't correct as he looses fur, goes very quiet, looses weight, fur goes all horrible. I don't remember the vet saying anything about his heart?? Not sure why they would go together?
Get a blood test done then at least you'll know

Thanks for this. My vet has quoted £200 to have him tested, does this sound about right? I thought it was quite alot for blood tests? Not that I won't have it done for that reason, am just wondering.
