Hi all

So, my brother and his wife have decided to get the first family dog - and have decided on a Tibetan Terrier. From all I know these dogs have a good temperament so it should be ok. However, I know they are going to look at a litter shortly and that the bitch has a hip score of 7/9. The dog is, I think 4/5. It is from an experienced breeder and the bitch had a litter last year. I know zilch about the breed, but if it were a lab I would be advising against it - however I know all breeds are different.

Whilst I realise that poor diet, over exercising etc etc can all have an impact on the hips - has anyone any advise about whether they should even go and see this litter with those sort of hip scores?

Thankies in advance

You could check if the stud has been used on any other bitches. As others have said its a tad high and slightly uneven although not anything I would be too concerned about. Breed average is out of date but average (mean this one is a little more up to date
http://www.bva.co.uk/public/documents/bms_hip_2010.pdf) is about 13. You could if shes not a maiden bitch look to see if any of the other pups have been scored or her litter mates to see if there are any that are very high.

Are they PLL clear? Had any other health tests?

Its only one thing to consider but as others have said unless she is outstanding maybe best to keep looking.

Thanks all. The bitch did have a litter last year so I could suggest they ask how they are doing. The stud dog seems to have had several litters which have also gone on to have litters themselves so I don't think there is an issue with him. Its more the mothers scores I was concerned about. Actually looking back through the pedigree I think he bred and owned both the bitches parents as well so hopefully there is some history.

All the other tests were fine.

Thanks very much for your help.
