Tick prevention?

Has anyoen used tick collars (Preventic) to ward off ticks? I use frontline plus already but the 4 week treatment interval required for tick protection is just too expensive to contemplate with 4 dogs - we use it every 12 weeks instead (the flea interval). So I'm looking for something to use against ticks...

I'm currently trying neat tea tree oil on the collar at the moment just adding a couple of drops every few days as you are right frontline is expensive.

So far so good but they don't get covered only a couple a week but since trying its been 5 weeks and none so far,I figured if it work for headlice and fleas it might work for ticks too.
I have been away for 3 weeks and my mum has been adding it and forgetting too

but it does seem to keep them at bay or maybe there isn't as many around at the moment.
