OK, got to the stage where we are picking a tick off our Dalmatian three or four times a week, and she is even attracting them on walks in the park rather than in the forest.

My daughter is really skilfull about extracting them (alcohol plus tweezers) but I am wondering if we should be looking into some preventative measures (hate idea of introducing chemicals into the home) or worrying about diseases such as Lyme disease.

Any experiences/opinions welcomed.

Many thanks.

Never had this problem as I have always used Frontline on my dogs and cats. The pipette version works very well indeed.

i would be using Frontline or Advantix if I was having that sort of a problem with ticks - they can carry nasty diseases and just them clinging on always initiates some degree of inflammatory response.

I always try to use frontline, but my terrier bitch did have one just above her eye once, and I managed to remove it but leaving the head in, she ended up at the vets, who had to dig it out and the vet said he had never seen a hole as big left when the head and infected area was removed. Never leave the head in is the moral of my story.

hi, i use fronyline on my springer, he is treated every 3 months. is that sufficient to keep the ticks away as well as other creatures? just want to make sure im doing my best for him. at present have never found any ticks on him. (fingers crossed) but do worry about him picking them up.

I use an all-natural flea and tick preventative, and it has worked really well so far. I am paranoid about Lyme Disease, so I always do a thorough check, and don't go into wooded areas at all from May-Oct.
