We moved house recently, and our horses new field used to have sheep in, and my horses are coming in covered in ticks every day! it is gross and causing itchy, scabby lumps on them. midge reppelent seems to help abit, but does anyone know of a super duper spray or anything to repel ticks??

we have 3 different fields which we rotate them in every few days but all seem to have ticks!its disgusting and im worried about the horses getting some kind of infection from them or somthing

Check yourself after you come in from the fields as well - ticks aren't good for humans either.

Make sure all ticks are removed - ticks do carry a number of diseases.

We went on holiday to Keswick end of May and I ended up with a tiny tick latched onto the back of my NECK!!!!!!! Legs wiggling!!

Not wanting to pull it out and leave it's head in my boyfriend squirted it with my perfume (anything alcohol based would of done) It died within 24 hrs but we still ended up pulling it out (whole!)

When we came home I went to the doctor who put me on a course of antibiotics.

BEWARE because Ticks can carry Lyme disease and over a period of 20 years or so it attacks the human nervous system and ultimately will kill you.

Ticks are rapidly increasing in numbers because it is no longer law that farmers have to treat their sheep

Frontline is brill for them.

If your on a budget Vasaline is fab. Lob a huge blob on them (making sure they are totally covered) and they suffocate and drop out.

Don't be tempted to pull them out, as they need to come out the way they went in. If heads stay in, they can cause nasty infections.

Petrol on cotton wool hold over the tick for a few minutes then pull off make sure you get the head e.g. hold upside down and watch it wriggle then pop on ground and stamp on it....easy I personally don't mind ticks...be wary of deer ticks though they're evil and can kill animals/humans or at least make them very poorly if you're field is as you described I'd move out but down the grass and spray before letting him back on it
