My wife was standing chatting to her cob as he was shod at the weekend. As she stroked his neck she found several ticks. We get a lot where our horses are (Highland Perthshire), but not at this time of year so we've done none of our normal checks.

Checked the others and found a couple more.

Global warming has a lot to answer for.

Ewww yuk. I can tolerate most thing but I HATE ticks

Oh no don't tell me they are here already! My ponies are in a field just now that is really bad for ticks as it has really long grass and there are always lots of deer in it. Because of this I can't use it in the summer but its usually ok until about may. I'd better keep a look out.
eriskaypony what do you use to get rid of them? I have used spot on successfully but don't really like using it as its so strong, I bought some more natural barrier tick spray but its very expensive and not convinced it works.

We use Spot On sparingly on the natives and cobs. Don't use it all on the British Riding Pony as his skin is too thin. We bought some spray at the RHS last year which seems to work, but can't remember what it's called. I'll check with OH.
