Ok, so I've found some ticks, got them out. But, with my poor eyesight, if I have missed any, what happens?
I also ''think'' I've left ones legs in... does that make it awful?

How did you get them out?

Potentially, by leaving parts you can make things worse.

Use a tick removal tool....read the instructions. Do not cover a tick in vaseline/alcohol or anything else as whilst in its death throes it regurgitates up its stomach contets and this is what can cause lymes disease.

Arhh, that is a good invention... shall invest in one.
Dog has never had ticks before, she is a whippet x, I'd like to think her coat isn't ''tick approved'', but today she had 5!! Went on a Different walk. Anyway, I didn't see them, but felt them when giving her some strokes... I just got my nails round the buggers and quick pulled... all looks good on whole tick front apart from one, which I squashed and got a few dog hairs with it which camouflaged the ticks legs!

What happens now then? Do I just keep an eye?? Swelling??

Keep an eye for anything abnornal that presents up to six months hence and ALWAYS stress to the vet that your dog has had an encounter with ticks and that he/she MAY be carrying Lymes.

Especially, be aware of any lameness (including joint swelling), loss of appetite and neurological symptoms. Vets may put such symptoms down to a multitude of other things or adopt a 'wait and see' approach unless you STRESS the encounter with ticks.

I had this with lab few weeks ago he had 2 tho. I pulled out with tweezers but tick tool easier and just as good. I think if anything left in the dogs body just pushes it out as a foreign body- so swelling etc and can become abcess may need trip to vet if it goes bad

Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads.
Here is a good way to get them off you, your children,
or your pets. Give it a try.

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough
to share--and it really works!

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best
way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in
those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with
tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of
dark hair, etc."

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick
with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few
seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be
stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.

This technique has worked every time I've used it
(and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic
for the patient and easier for me.."

Also, if you just pull a tick off, their heads sometimes break off
and are left under the skin so this is much safer. Be aware

also that a tick with a white speck on its back is a Deer
Tick, these can cause Tick Fever so check yourself and
your family good if you see any of these!

"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this
would be damaging in any way.
Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint.
