is there anyway to prevent horses getting them?

every night this week Taz had come in with dozens of them on his face. this evening he had 27...

how do I stop them?

or isn't there a way and I will have to continue to remove them every evening... weird thing is it is only him and one other horse on the yard that get them... every other horse is fine

any ideas?

Maybe you could ask your vet for some products. Mine said I could use Frontline and also recommended another product (can't remember the name). Have not had too many ticks to deal with this year. But check with your vet ie. Frontline first.

As I said my horses have not had to many yet but my 7 year old daughter came to wake me up during the night as she had something on her face that wouldn't come off but was hurting. It was a tick!!!!!!!!!!! Poor thing had it attached to her forehead. Can only imagine that it fell of the dog after we had been walking in the forest. She did tell me she had been brushing the dog on her bed, I have suggested she does not do this in future!!!

Neem Oil!

Google Neem Team and get a bottle.
The oil solidifies so stand in hot water then
2 tablespoons Neem
2 " liquid soap or shampoo
1 L hot water.
Mix together and apply with a sponge.

It works very well for ticks, flies and midges (and fleas on dogs) the downside is that Neem stinks but you do get use to it and the smell wears away long before the effectiveness does.
