Don't really want to clip Blues legs out completely as he's out in the field for 12/13 hours a day and i want him to have some protection but his legs are ridiculously hair think he must have been crossed with a gypsy cob somewhere down the line is there any way i can neaten them up?

My cob is the same but I do clip them out as feel that anything is going on under all that fur I can see it........have tried using thinning scissors but looked like a mess so I use cordless clippers which give a much more tailored look!

Use clippers and run them down the backs of the legs to trim them not cut the hair dead short. Then clip the feathers off at the bottom.

I do this too. Prefer to clip legs in winter as she had mud fever last year and it is quicker to detect, clean and dry legs without loads of feather.

What down the back of the front legs and the back legs?

They're not like cob hairy but as he's not a heavy horse and has fairly skinny legs they look a little odd with all that hair especially as he's blanket clipped !

IFyou take a pair of sharp scissors and run them down the back of the leg eg. tendon area, this will tidy up loose hairs, then do the same around his fetlocks untill all the hair is as you want it!!!! Easy if your horse will stand still!!!!

Use a mane comb against the leg and then cut with sharp scissors anything that goes over the comb. We used to do all the RS horses like this and it tidies them up without going too close to the leg

Either use human hair shavers (lob load of the hair off with scissors first, then tidy it up with the shavers). Or use scissors and a pulling/mane comb. Run the comb through backwards at an angle with the teeth facing towards you, the cut using the scissors.

Well first I checked under my trouser legs, and then realised I wasn't in Soapbox!

i have clipped legs before by running the clipper down with the hair growth instead of against it, which gives you a trim, but not as short as a clip
