Tildren

not one i've heard of. Where is your horse stiff? If it's at the injection site that could be due to the catheter a bit like the after effect of a vaccine sometimes. If at all concerned I would call your vets. Ony "side effect" I am aware of is very rarely colic within the first 4 hrs.

My mare had tildren at start of year she did have colic 3 times afterwoods over 3 days which made her very sore all over and had a heamotoma (sp?) on the sight of the injections. But wouldnt say as such it was muscle stiffness.

Has anyone used Tildren and had their horse show signs of muscle stiffness in the subsequent days?

My horse had tildren three times within a twelve month period. His side effects were tiredness/lethargy, general grogginess and huge urine output and I mean HUGE! Bed soaked through. It did really knock him for six especially the first one but the vet thought this was to do with the large amount of fluid he has administered intravenously with the tildren.

There were no signs of muscle stiffness. Problems around the injection site can be one of the side effects.

Here is a factsheet about side effects but its not mentioned.
I heard somewhere that in the states there is a technique called limb profusion which is administering the tildren into a limb after a tourniquet has been fitted which is less risky for the side effects of colic and heart problems, but these are extremely rare side effects anyway and colic is normally prevented by giving an anti spasmodic injection prior to infusion, or was in my horses case anyway. I think colic was something like 7% and heart problems 0.3% as my horse is extremely colic prone and has heart block so I was concerned at the time but the vet said side effects from Tildren were quite rare.

My lad had exactly the same effects. You have to see how much urine to believe it, the bed couldn't cope with the amount & was literally drenched. His first one was the worst too, I was very worried & the vet came out to see him. She did give him a small injection of bute but didn't want to give him too much as she didn't think he was colicking, just feeling generally tired & lethargic.

By the next morning he had perked up, the next one the effects were not as severe apart from the urine, that was still the same HUGE amount!!

Its really weird isn't it. I can't see how a bag of Saline with Tildren mixed in can be such a huge amount for them to pass considering the size of it. Mind you I'm a bit like that if I drink Pepsi!!:D
