I've used it twice on my horse, once in January and once in June.
He came very sound after the first administration and more recently was showing slight unlevelness again so we retreated, I haven't noticed any difference since the second treatment.
I am planning on having more xrays done at some point so it will be interesting to see if there is any change before and after

I used it on my horse's spavin yrs ago. It did not seem to make any difference to him at the time. He has now come sound through supplements, physio and appropriate exercise.

That will be interesting Ben&Jerrys, I had before x-rays but no afters. My lovely boy was killed in a road accident before Christmas so I'll never know now.

My vet suggested using it for my horse who was diagnosed with kissing spines last year. He had four treatments with it. After the first one he was rested for 6 weeks and seemed to be a little better, so he had further treatments (four in total) but sadly the improvement seems to have only been due to the fact that he hadn't worked for 6 weeks and so now he is just the same as he was last year, but all of my insurance period is used up, so I can't try any other treatment. He's still fine for hacking but it seems that his competitive career is finished.

Tildren didn't make the slightest bit of difference to my mare's sacroiliac strain. (Except giving her colic after it was administered

) I hope you have more success though.

mm i have heard that mild colic is supposed to be a side effect of it. My vet tells me that its meant to stop the demineralisation of the navicular bone and in all the horses that hes worked on, it has halted the the process and even in some begun to cure it.
Im sorry to hear about your horse Brandy29...
thanks!

Merlin had it about 4 weeks ago for hock spavins (he also has changes in his pedal bone).

Not sure if it was the tildren or the hock steroid jabs (both done on the same day) but touch wood he is sound at the moment... and he was a virtual cripple before it was done!!

Thankyou Quickstarr. I feel comforted that he had the Tildren before the accident and hope that his last road trot was a more comfortable for having it. Ironic really
Oh heck crying now..
Anyways, yes reduces bone mineralisation (which is what Flint's x-rays showed up as having in his pedal bone) I did loads of research before importing it, my vet didn't know an awful lot about it, I pretty much orchestrated the whole thing, he just put the drip in!
No after effects at all for us

Yes, mine showed very mild spasmodic colic symptoms both times he had it. The first time he was just anorexic for 12 hours, the second time didn't pass any droppings for 8 hours. He wasn't particularly distressed though and the vet gave him a big dose of finadyne when administering the Tildren.
I believe the action of tildren is to modify the balance and action of osteoblast/osteoclast ... therefore you are likely to find tildren help most when there is bone involvement.
Was surprised someone has used it on sacroiliac strain, thats a new one on me. Have heard of its use in kissing spine, hock spavin and other forms of OA but to be honest I think the best results have been seen in Navicular cases.

My vet used it on my horse to treat bone spavins. However, with in seconds of it being administed my horse had a severe allergic reaction and the treatment had to be stopped.

Apparantly the Manufacturers had never heard of the side effects it produced in my horse, colic is the only thing people are warned about.

I have heard good things about it but obviously my horses treatment never got that far.

How weird ! The only other side effect I was warned about were cardiac issues due to the potential for hypocalcemia, so vet had stethoscope to hand throughout the procedure.

Brandy29 .. my horse stayed in for a day, then was turned out and had a couple of days off work then a couple of light work days and then went back to normal.

That's interesting, first time we used it we were on box rest for weeks (though he did go out in the sand paddock while I mucked out, so cheated a little I think) and the second he went out on the second day as yours did and then stayed out. I'm not sure if either way was better than the others.

It was prescribed for my 14yo in 2004 when he was first diagnosed with navicular and 6 months' Navilox had had no effect. Sadly, neither did the Tildren. He was kept in the vet hospital overnight in case of colic while it was administered intravenously, but the vets advised against a second course of treatment.

I have heard of several success stories, however, and I gather it claims a 60% success rate.

My old boy has been on a yearly perfusion of Tildren for 3 years now. No side effects as my vet combines it with calmagine in order to prevent colic. Has made a huge difference !

Bone demineralisation was diagnosed and besides the comfort he's gained from it, it seems to have stabilised the bone deterioration.
After his perfusion, he's allowed to do in hand grazing the next day, then walked (ridden) for a couple of days and finally progressively back to normal work.
