I have had ellie on erm some sort of loan i suppose permanent for two years in June. It is a strange situation as I have never met the owner and have only ever spoken to her on the phone for about 5 minutes. I got her from someone else who had had her on loan. My agreement was made with the loaner not owner but she terminated it and it is now with the owner although i had never spoken to her

still with me?? Ellie is 9 years old connie x warmblood 14.2hh

Well anyway i have had her a year and a half and last season did well showing, did pc camp, bit of sj, xc training, dressage and she has been a star at low level stuff, i have had to re-school her in everything hacking flatwork jumping the lot. She iis now okay really at everything and we always get nice comments, always placed at low level stuff but feel we are getting no where. She will happily pop round a 75/85 sj - same xc and has nice flatwork. She has LOADS of ability jumping- look at my sig and is very flashy in the show ring but if I try to take it to the next level we both just end up failing. I really want to move on and do bigger better shows and am desperate to compete and get out there but my pony does not share the same interest she would be more happy at RC level. I took her hunting for the first time at new year and had a fabulous time she was a star snaffle mouthed, well mannered jumped everything we loved it- I thouhgt we were moving on but then i took her to GG centre today started off fab jumping a lovely 85/95 course with ease but as i carried on she just started refusing and i acually fell off but then 2nd time she will just do it perfectly, i suppose jumping in a VSD saddle doesnt help but she did a real nasty stop i just went plop out the side door. People have often said to me do you not think that Elie is not what i want- do i need something with more ability or something a bit more game but i have always said she has ability she is just green which is true. I have never ridden something that i can entirely trust when jumping apart from the odd times. Like today i rode my best friends ex racer that is fab at jumping i was like wow so this is what it is like. It felt weird to be able to trust a horse and not have to boot it at the last stride to ensure we actually jump. It was amazing and i felt great. I also used to jump a 22 y/o pony called cracker- a real schoolmaster but sadly his show career ended at 22 just because he wasn't enjoying it much anymore. i felt when i jumped him on 1.10m courses like i could do anything and then realised i can do more than 75cm clear rounds at RC. Not only that but people have always said that i am a fairly good rider

and need something on the same levl as me.

What my point is is that do you think i should move onto horses after this show season (I was 16 in Jan and am 5'6 with long legs) and get going onto something i can truely just enjoy going out and competing, feeling i am being challenged, as in difficult combinations and tight turns not booting a lazy pony round 75cm RC courses?? I always seem to come home from places dissapointed and upset because ellie just wont co-operate

Please help me i know this is long and boring but i feel like i am really in a rut and not sure what to do. Ellie is 9 this year so should i stick with her and keep trying to improve her by doing as much as i can?? Sheis just VERY green.

HELP please

Well i think only you can truely answer the question of whether you need another horse or not and i would say take your time and think long and hard about what you want to do and what you pony can do. If your not happy to stop at the level she is capable of then maybe it is time to think about moving on.

I can only speak from my own experience but with my last horse (who is now on loan) we came to a point where she just wasn't going to be able to move any heigher up the levels (dressage) which is what i enjoy but i did want to go further. I made the decision to buy another horse that has the potential to do so and i'm very happy and it was the right decision for me.
