Time for Bute to Start Working

Hi everyone,

Do you know how long it would take for bute to take effect? My mare is lame (not horrendously and mainly on the curve) in trot due to arthritis.

I am waiting for her foal to be weaned (end of this month) before I start bute treatment and just wondered roughly how long it might take before I see a change?

All I can tell you is that bute is a 12 hour drug hope that helps

Like in you when you take ibuprofen and the like, the drug starts acting when absorbed.
The stomach empties in 3 hours usually, so I say that you should start to see effects by then and as the above post states, it has a 12 hour duration so will wear off again within 12-24 hours.
Try using it every 12 hours for the best management...you should see good improvements in the 12-14hour time scale too.
