My new horse had a small but v sharp wolf tooth out today. I was v surprised that he immediately settled down to start eating hay, so I am guessing it can't be that sore? How long should I give him before I put a bit back into his mouth? Thanks

A small one should heal remarkably quickly so I would leave a few days before riding, probably until Monday or Tuesday then see how he is, if he is not happy give a few more days.

vet said see how you get on! Not sure I am brave enough to ride 17hh of baby ISH that is having quite a lot of grub (as he was in shockingly poor condition) in a halter as I don't have an arena to ride in & generally just have to man up and hack out.........

I usually give at least a week without a bit as the last thing you want with a young horse is any negative association with the contact. But the mouth does heal very quickly, I am just cautious.

Thank you everyone! It sounds as though I should be back on board quite quickly as it was only a 5 min job to get it out (it took longer than that to sedate him as he is not very keen on having a needle stuck in his vein!). I'll probably just lunge him/long rein him in a headcollar for the next few days & climb back on at the end of next week.
