For some reason, completely unknown to me, having 5 months off riding when Chico was ill has seemed to make me a better rider!

My technique and balance is just so much easier now, i am maintaining a much better contact and Chico is being much more responsive to it all.

I simply cant work out why this has happened. Any ideas??

:confused::D

Could it be because you are more chilled? Sometimes, I set goals and am so determined to obtain them that I get tense and that doesn't help anything. Maybe you are so happy to be riding again that you are just enjoying it without pressurising yourself?

I seem to learn a lot through visualisation. You probably did a lot of thinking about riding, seeing yourself riding again, thinking about how it feels. If I have ever been left homework by an instructor I swear I have made the progress more by imagining putting it into practice rather than actually doing it!

I wish it had done the same for me! I had six months off after my mare was diagnosed with a number of lameness conditions - I now ride like a complete numpty!!! I panic at the slightest sign of trouble where I used to be pretty confident but I'm sure with time I'll get better again!
