My mare has had a lot of problems over the past few months. She has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and then has had troubles maintaining weight. She keeps becoming poorly and itchy all over. Most of the time she is happy but keeps on having bad days. The insurance money is rapidly running out and I'm not. Onvinced I'm going to get her off her medication any more. Have the vet coming out first thing in the morning and though it breaks my heart to do it I think I may have to let her go.

Trying not to cry typing this but I've had enough emotionally and am not sure how long I can stay strong and positive. I want so much to give her another chance but dont want her to suffer anymore.

Sorry to hear this...perhaps you could explain your feelings to the vet and see what quality of life they think she will have?

Poor you and poor horse...

I would be guided by what your vet says tomorrow. If I have to make the 'difficult' decision I always ask the vet what would they do if it was their animal - their answer is usually enough to convince me of which way to go.

Take comfort in the fact you have done everything possible for your horse, and thoughts with you for tomorrow.

Unfortunately the vets don't know much about the condition as its so rare and the specialists seem to be looking at her as a guinea pig for their treatments. Getting my local practice out for an honest opinion and will take it from there
