Direct quote from this Months Hampshire Horse watch Bulletin that I thought I would share with you:

"It is apparent that owners of horses are still not getting the message about post coding or uniquely marking their property. "

With the dark nights here there are more opportunities for the criminal to steal your equipment and even your horse!

As per the recent post with the suspected Tack thieves and recovery of items:

"As we tell you…property that cannot be identified to an owner/victim of a crime is very likely to go back from whence it came!!!" It is likely that in some instances Police forces cannot prosecute for lack of evidence, so not only will a suspect walk free to carry on causing misery, but they get all your goods back too if they cannot be identified!!!

PS!!! It doesn’t have to be just equine property.

Please spare a little time to do some marking!!

Hi,
Thanks for the reminder.
Apologies for a really stupid question, but how would you go about marking your tack?

Yes most horsewatch schemes have tack marking kit and if you can get a load of friends together it makes it easier for them to do a whole load, like at a local Riding Club meeting or at a table top tack sale. If you do not have a local horsewatch then contact your local police force if they have anyone attached to horsewatch it would be better if not try your local crime prevention officer.

If your saddle has an identification/serial number on it, it is worth making a note of it, I personally keep a small piece of paper with my tack details tucked in the back of my horse’s passport.

You can also have a microchip inserted into your saddle relatively inexpensively. Pictures are always helpful in reuniting property and a note of any unique damage or marks. It really is a big help if a police officer can find an owner and can mean the difference between having to let someone go and getting a prosecution.
