Thought I found the right horse share: it’s a pony at a new riding school, £20 a week for three days, no chores, just ride and help out around the yard. Turn up today for my first day today and there are kids everywhere! The YO had forgotten to text me to let me know I couldn’t ride on my designated day, (she had been ill) but it was something to do with the wet weather that the local kids needed to ride at the yard and also using the horse I was meant to be sharing as well. I feel disappointed as I’d been looking forward to it all weekend and feel I was pushed aside. It occurred to me that I will probably have this problem during the school holidays, (I’d forgotten it’s half term this week) and the yard only has one small indoor school which will probably be in use most of the day. I thought I might try and book a last minute lesson at my local riding school but they’re fully booked because of half term so I can’t even ride today! It’s times like these I wish I had my own horse! Feeling very miffed and not sure if I should just stick with lessons at a riding school, (I’m currently paying £32 for a one hour private lesson with a junior instructor who's not qualified to teach me to jump) and maybe save up and look for a loan or my own horse in a couple of year’s time as I’m not having a lot of luck with finding the right share :(

Dont give up :)
I have been arund horses all my life, i loaned horses only to find the owners woud take them away and sell them, i shared horses and would be left with all the chores, but when it goes right its te best feeling in the world :)

good luck xx

Ive never owned, but if im honest i prefer not owning, you can get alot more experience! I ride a pony for one of my daddys lovely friends, and i help out at local stables for free and ive been doing it for so long im now head girl on a saturday, so i get alot of riding in and dont have to do much work! The amount of opportunities ive been given from doing one day a week for 6 years is unreal! Im only 14, and i was about 6 when i started riding there, and 8 when i started helping a bit, nothing big, just sticking around after little pony rides to help untack and groom and stuff, and now im asked if i can do a day in the holidays if theyre a bit stuck, and theyve bought a 5 year old sec a stallion off someone who didnt treat him well, infact they treated him extreemly badly, and they bought him to be my project :D im not boasting, but i feel increadibly lucky to be given these oportunities from doing something for them, it shows how far a bit of generosity can go :)

Sorry if there is any awfull spelling in there, my brain isnt functioning properly today :S

How lucky are you! I used to help out at my local riding schools, but I've moved around so much that I usually end up starting all over again! I may try and help out more and see if I can get some free rides with it too. Would be nice to have my own horse but then so would winning the lottery!

Wish you were closer to me!! I'm looking for someone who just wants to ride 2 or 3 times a week!! I will still visit my horse in the evenings, muck him out feed him and put him out in the field I literally want someone compedent and capable to exercise him during the week while I'm stuck at work!!! I could school him every night in the indoor but I HATE schooling so I'd much rather someone else and him enjoy a hack or jumping than subject us both to the tedium of walking round a dusting dark indoor school!!!
