How do you deal with this?

If someone says they will be there between 4-5pm and they don't show til gone 5.30pm how would you deal with this?

im really busy and on a tight schedule and there is nothing I hate more than people not being where they should be at the right time and not calling to let me know.

i want to tell them I can't see them but I'm worried as they obviously have my address and you do hear of horrible things happening.

what would you do ?

I think that if you are selling something, you just have to accept that people will turn up to view at slightly random times.

The description 'timewasters' is a bit of an exaggeration if they were genuine buyers, but arrived a little over half an hour late.

FWIW, I would always update a vendor if I was running late, but alas, not everyone thinks to do this.

Whilst you could impress on potential viewers that they have to be punctual, you then run the risk of letting strangers know which times there may be no one at your home address.

Just tell them you have another viewer at 5.45 so they need to be there on time.
No need to tell them when you will be there, to be honest anyone can just drive in to your place at any time on any pretext.

Well you have to allow an hour for puppy viewing so just cut short their time, got to feed the chickens, child to bath or whatever.

iT would depend on how they arrived -flustered & apologetic or blase about being late.

I agree it depends how they are with you when they eventually arrive. When arranging the viewing I would mention that I was going out or had someone coming over at a certain time, then the onus is on them.

I'm a stickler for being on time, so it would really annoy me too!

Depends how far they are travelling too. I was late when I went to collect my Vizzy pup, but he was a good 3 hour drive away, I did ring to say we were running late though.

Just a note of caution, my daughter bought an Irish Wolfhound some years ago. The breeders had other prospective buyers who had made an appointment, and turned up much later than arranged, saying they had got lost on the way. By now it was dark, and the 2 male visitors were in the garden with the pups. After the visitors had left, the breeder realised 2 pups were missing. The visitors had apparently lifted them over the garden fence to a third waiting person. Horrendous experience and it took several weeks before the pups were recovered...

Years ago when we had a litter, we had a prospective buyer turn up four hours late to view the last pup available, even though he lived not all that far away. Apparently he was busy and did not think we would mind him being a 'bit' late. We had to tell him that he was too late, the pup was gone, and the torrent of abuse that followed for having sold HIS dog was simply appalling. At no time had he been promised a puppy, in fact we made certain to mention more than once that others were interested, and if appointments were not kept he might not be available any more. Still, he claimed we had all but promised him this puppy, and was very aggressive with me, which I found fairly terrifying at 18 from a grown man! The pup DEFINITELY went to the better home in my opinion, so it worked out in the end.

Turning up late is a clear message that the character concerned considers their time more valuable than yours.

I must confess this is one thing that really annoys me, (Well, rude people in general annoy me actually as it is so unnecessary!).

I mentioned it to a good friend who also ran a kennels. He replied. "Oh. it never bothers me!'

I was astounded! He is the most irascible, if entertaining, person I know!

He went on to explain, "Look, if they are so disorganised that they can't turn up on time, they won't remember what price I've quoted so I just add another £50".

Next time some one turned up late, I simply added £50. Of course, he protested but I stuck to my guns, got the extra £50, and felt a LOT better for it. I have never had the slightest twinge of conscience about it either!:D

i love this idea lol!

I think the lateness was unfortunate, and they could have phoned to tell you they were running late/lost. But I'm not sure I'd class them as timewasters - after all they did turn up (presumably).

Turning up late isnt a character trait!! We went to view some pups 2weeks ago and ended up arriving half an hour late, thanks to the sat nav!! Directed us down alongside a canal where we couldnt turn around, called the puppy owner but it was engaged so apologised/explained when arrived...
It really does depend on how the people are when they arrive, apologetic? no explanation?

Often people going to view puppies will be travelling a distance, and to a place they're not familiar with. I really don't think that being half an hour late makes them a time waster, especially when they were given a vague time to start with.

Pretty much everyone who came to look at my pups was late to some degree, but we live in a hard to find place so it really didn't bother me. As long as they were nice when they got here!

The time wasters were the seemingly lovely people who came to look, put a deposit on the nicest pups, then were never heard from again! Or the one who said he'd be here in the morning, kept me hanging around all day with various calls and excuses, and then finally, at 5pm, said he'd run out of petrol and was going to have to turn back :rolleyes3: now that was a VERY weird one!

Generally, the people who just turned up a bit late were not time wasters, just travelling a long way.

I think you're being a bit unreasonable about this. Maybe they had a long journey and were delayed, or maybe they got lost. They could have updated you but maybe they kept thinking they were only a few minutes away.

If that's your definition of a timewaster I think you're in for a rough time!

Well, I suppose it depends on your view point. If I have an important appointment, I will sometimes make a dummy run to make sure I know where I'm going and that I can get there on time. But then I am fanatical about such things and admit it. I regularly have to pick someone up and so far I don't think I have been more than five minutes late over a couple of dozen times. Nor do I ever have to wait for my passenger. That is called mutual respect.

There is surely enough technology available these days to make getting lost unnecessary. As for sat nav, I gave mine away and now rely on Google maps and satellite view which I can print out and take with me. Google will even give you an estimated travelling time and fuel consumption/costs if you program in your technical details.

The ones who come and view and are genuinely interested are welcome with no obligation to buy but I do demand 48 hours notice and an estimated arrival time. They are usually favourably impressed and hopefully go away to spread the word, even if they don't buy.

As for the ones who cancel by email (which, of course, didn't get read until three hours later!) an hour before the appointed time and then are two hours late on the new appointment, I really have no comment as they should be intelligent enough to work it out for themselves!

But as I've said, I am a fanatic!:D

I think for 30 mins I would have just accepted that things happen- life does not always run perfectly smoothly!! They could have rung you to explain though.

Whilst a phone call would be nice , I don't think I would bother too much about the odd half hour here or there. As Patterdale says people are often travelling a distance so timing can be a little off . In my experience people viewing pups are usually here for a minimum of an hour so I wouldn't have made other plans anyway.
