Hi all,
Just a mini rant really... I'm basically giving one of my horses away for free, to a good companion/very light hack home, before I make the descion to have him PTS . However, I am getting so many timewasters, just phoning up and asking all the right questions and then knowing people that know people who might take him on. One lady even didn't want him because she 'didn't want anything to look unsightly' in the her stables (he has a club foot-hence giving him away!) Why can't people just either not bother, or actually do something productive... I mean, a companion home means just that, surely?! Has anybody else had anything like this before. I could understand it, if i was asking a sum of money for him, but if people can't afford the up-keep of a horse, why are they even thinking about taking another one on anyway?! Ahhhhhhhhh!

Why is he only a companion/light hack?
Just intrigued as I have a pony with a club foot and it doesn't affect him at all.
Why not ask some money for him and you may stop the numptys calling you wanting something for nothing

I think the problem is that he is free! People are always after something for nothing and often won't consider the implications of owning a horse. You are also likely to get many unscrupulous people who will only take him on to re-sell him for a profit (and since you are giving him away for free, even a small re-sale price would be profit for them).

To be honest, I think he is very likely to end up in the wrong hands this way. Have you considered a loan so you can keep an eye on him? Alternatively, personally I would prefer to PTS a horse rather than see it go from home to home.

I'm sorry but if you are giving him away, then you are absolving the decision to PTS. Personally if he was mine and I cared for him I would either find a loan home that I could keep an eye on or PTS myself.
