I have been searching for a horse to buy or loan since the middle of last year and have had nothing but let downs.

I went to see a gorgeous TB x Cob 4 weeks ago. He is for permanent loan. 9 years old.

I am looking for a horse to do a bi of everything on, hacking, schooling, jumping, x-country, local shows, etc, etc, so this chap sounded perfect.

I went to ride him, and he was perfect, apart from a slight noise in canter. It sounded like he was out of breath, just like you or I would be if we weren't fit and went for a 5 mile run!

So, we had a chat about it and the owner said she would get her vet out when I was on holiday and get him fitter. I went on holiday the weekend after I saw him.

I arranged for another vet to go and check him out, for a second opinion and also as her vet knew the owner, he may take her side, say there is nothing wrong with him, just so she could sell him.

I get back from holiday with positive feedback from the vet I used, saying it was a fitness thing (which was my initial thought) and that it would get better as he got fitter.

So I have been talking with his owner all of this week to arrange to collect him next weekend. The owner emailed this morning to say that someone came to see him yesterday (what? after I had been arranging to come and get him??!) and they are letting him go to them rather than me?!

Why have everyone I have spoken to, been to see their horse been total timewasters and liars?

I am looking for a horse over 16.2hh (as i'm tall), no older than 12, to do a bit of everything with to either loan or buy. I have land and stables at home. Why is this such a hard task?

If anyone has or knows of someone with a horse that would suit me, please, please, please let me know, I am seriously losing hope of finding a horse.

Don't lose hope, I've been searching for nearly 3 months and have found the horse industry has a lot of liars when they want your money!! I was looking for a dark bay gelding over 15.2hh and a beautiful chestnut mare who is 15.1hh has just kind of landed in my lap - all because of a chance meeting with the owner in a petrol station!
The right horse for you is out there, and when the time is right, they'll find you :)

It's horrible when things like that happen, I had a similiar thing happen to me when buying a horse about 4 years ago,the day before we had arranged to collect her they text to say they did not want to seel her anymore!
Don't loose hope, it obviously wasn't meant to be, keep looking! :-) x

Very frustrating...i know that lots of buyers are timewasters but there are plenty of timewasting sellers out there too. We have been looking for FR pony for my daughter. Dound a sec a about 2 1/2 hours away that sounded perfect. Decided to take the lorry with us to look as if pony was what we wanted we could take him rather than another trip, so filled lorry with diesel, had to take the 4x4 too as there was me, YO, my little girl, and a lightweight experienced rider to try the pony as well as my daughter.....so it was a right mission to get there, lady said she would be able to meet us at 1pm, she knew we were bringing the lorry, we rang here when we were 10 mins from her yard to ask for directions and she hung up on me as soon as she realised who it was....then texted and said sorry, she couldnt meet us to show us the pony now as she was busy. i expect she either sold them or decided not to...either way it was very rude of her and I was soooooo cross!!!! and my daughter was very disapointed. it has made me very wary now.
Don't give up, sometimes the right horse will show up when you least expect it. we have stopped searching for a pony for now, daughter is carrying on loaning and we hope something will just turn up!

I'm sorry this has happened to you but I'm afraid if I was the seller / loaner and had been waiting four weeks then I too would have found another buyer (and would have been muttering about timewasters).

Another one will turn up BUT if you are buying and you are serious put down a deposit.

Believe me, putting down a deposit makes no difference!!! We travelled for 2 hours to go see a horse that sounded just right for us. Tried him, decided we liked him so put down a 10% deposit on him. Organised for my instructor to come and see him on the tuesday, so she postponed 2 lessons for that. On the tuesday morning I got a text from the woman we were buying from telling me she had decided not to sell but to loan him tom her best friend!!! She would put a cheque in the post to me for the deposit. Fine I said, but what about the deisel money we wasted coming to see him, the time I had to pay for my RI for that afternoon as she couldnt rebook the lessons she had postponed, the half day unpaid leave both me and my husband had taken. She was a complete timewasting seller, who even had the cheek when we were there to ask us when we were going to get the deposit from the bank, to pick up a mcdonalds for her and half the bloody yard!!!!!

It has only been that long because I was on holiday for 2 weeks

its funny that those selling cant shift them and those of us searching cant find them ?
think i will buy a rocking horse-that would please my hubby no end lol x

Dubsie- I did think that when i saw the ad, but my daughter is still quite novice and needs a real FR little gem that seems to be really hard to find!! Not sure if she would be confident enough to manage off the LR with this one...

We are not sure how he is, (he used to be a star when at the RS) as we haven't got a small rider, however, my sharers who do Magic, are going to be trying him tomorrow for us :) Her kids are young, one is on LR, one just off and a wee bit nervous. I will be able then to say how good (or not) he is, and also little man will be in work until he is sold, so I'll let you know :)
(sorry for hijacking!)

Hi Trotter, have you looked into getting a loan horse from a welfare centre? I got my mare from World Horse Welfare, she is on loan to me for as long as I want and if my circumstances ever cjange she goes back to them. They do have some nice horses there, also you can rehome youngsters and they take them back for breaking and schooling and then you can have them back. Just a thought.
