I have lost my confidence pretty badly with my own horse (fine with everything else) so my aim this year is to get going and be confident enough to do a local show with my boy.
He's done PC etc in the past but not done anything like that in the 6 years he's been with me so not sure how to expect him to behave! So I want a teeny tiny local venue.
I'm a 10 minute hack from the Atherstone Riding Club/Upton showground but I'm thinking smaller if possible. Don't mind if it's a walk & trot test or something like best turned out

Can anyone recommend anywhere that is nervous people/first timer friendly please within 40 minutes of the Nuneaton area? Thanks

I also go to Atherstone, and the only smaller show you will get around here is Hartshill, but it is well worth going if you can get there - the ground is just outside Polesworth.

Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, they do walk-trot tests and showing classes for everyone. It really is a club that encourages people to have a go and somewhere you will instantly feel at ease (I promise!)

Google hartshillridingclub.co.uk and have a look at their website.

Thanks Chunkie.
I'm debating going to Atherstone but there always seems to be so much going on and that sort of thing tends to blow his mind and he needs to be kept busy, not sure if I'll have the confidence for it. Might check their schedule tho' and do either a class first thing or very last! Will check out Hartshill too, thankyou

It's not that far as the crow flies from you - not sure about the roads but Newbold Verdon EC sounds like it could be what you want - they do everything from combined training to clear round jumping and there are lots of adults there jumping weeny jumps (me included!!) They also have a charity show later in the season for when you feel more confident. Sally Bates is an absolute love, you always come away feeling on top of the world! They do have a website but not sure if it has been updated for 2010 yet...It's busy enough not to feel like you are having a private lesson but not so busy it blows your/ponios minds. If you want calm I would avoid HighCross! Great venue but not what I would call teeny-tiny!!

Diamond ran fun shows and dressage last year - they were really, really lovely and Kim who runs the shows is fab (and her dad looks after the SJ ring and is always there encouraging you on your way round!). If they are running again this year they will be perfect for you

I did dressage, showing and SJ there last year and even qualified for the dressage champs (and I am anervous novice) www.diamondcompetitionhorses.com

Also, Fossebrook will be running shows this year I think and my friend is running the yard this year and she will defo do good shows because she is fab

Bit further away but worth the travel is Moorelands (www.moorelandsstables.co.uk). They do showing and dressage, Liz who runs it is really lovely and supportive, and because it's all in a menage you feel safe and secure.
