I thought this would be worth a mentioning..
If your horse has a rug with chest clips for fastening. It would be worth clipping them on facing inwards.
As had a horse the other night who managed to 'clip' himself to the haynet!! Thankfully no harm done and he stood like a saint til the morning when found. (I don't know how long he stood there bless)!
So I now ensure the clips are facing inwards to the rug, and this should lessen the chance if not preventing it ever happening again..
Thats my tip of the day!

Before I would clip on any ol' way, as didn't think it mattered.
Now this has happened and obviously the clip was facing outwards that he got caught. I now will make a concious effort to do them facing in, be it on stable or turnouts.

I always, always clip with the clip inwards. We once had a horse on the yard who clipped his leg strap to barbed wire - how he never hurt himslef I will never know!

However, you could have a vandalistic horse like mine who has sucessfully bent 2 clips now so that they are always open!! *rollseyes*

Dog lead style clips that just press in I think they mean - a friend of mines horse had these on a rug a while back and though we mentioned the risks of them facing outwards she wouldn't listen as she said they were easier to undo the othe way round

Poor horse leant through the not too hot wire fencing and clipped itself to the middle strand - it went ballistic and ended up with a broken front leg and neck - owner found her dead in the field that evening.

I think the wugs do come with a note that says clip them with the clip to the inside. I didn't use to, but I do now! I've heard of horses getting attached to fence too.

Yes I mean the 'spring clips' and not the T-bar ones.

To be honest, I have never read the 'instruction book' if a rug ever came with one(?).
I have lernt from my lesson!
I am horrified at reading horses clipping themselves to fencing, and electric fencing?? OMG! I can easily imagine how now. All because of a dinky clip that seems harmless.
It's something that has never crossed my mind before til after my lucky mistake. Scary stuff!
Maybe should go back to buckles??

Yep, pony at our yard had clips clipped outwards, and clipped itself onto the wire fence (have sheep next door so neccessary!) Luckily he just stood and waited for us to come save him in the morning! We were wondering why he didnt come over for his breakfast

Oh god yeah, I also learnt this about 4 years ago when my Warmblood clipped himself to a wire fence!! He hadnt struggled but I have no idea how long he'd been standing there patiently until I found him in the morning!

God, I'd never thought of that. Only reason until now I've clipped them inwards is that my neddie manages to grind mud into the crevices - will make certain they're always inwards from now on....shudder shudder
