We've now got the date to move Sid to his new yard and i was wondering how to make it as stress free as possible for him. Any tips?
It's a first for us too so want to try to make sure we are as organised as possible so a) to make it easier for him and b) so we don't look like a right pair of idiots in front of the new yard people who all seem rather better than we are!!

Before you take horse over to new yard, go up to new yard yourselves first say hi to the yard manager and then drop off as much of his accessories and your mucking out tools as possible, then make is stable ready for him with his water, hay/haylage and bedding. Get his rugs ready for him if he wears any. Find out where your tack area is and drop off all of that so it is ready for when you want to use it. Get your bearings around the new yard and find out where he will be turned out and walk that route and have a good look around. Then go back to your current yard and pick up horse, as now all you have to do is concentrate on moving him and not all the other stuff that goes with him as you should have already moved that. He can then arrive on new yard, and settle into his new stable with all his usual creature comforts surrouding him. Good luck I am sure it will all go well.

I have recently moved my 2 mares to a small new yard. I firstly got everything moved over and put their beds etc down (take some of your old dirty bedding and put it into the new stable so yr horse has his smell on it), then just concentrated on moving my girls.

Let new yard know approx wot expected time of arrival is and away you go. I also used Rescue Remedy on my older mare - it really is good stuff! Calmed my nerves too

All went well.

Dont even think of the other people on the new yard - yr horse and you guys are the important ones - and dont put yourself down otherwise you will be nerous, pony will pick up on it and he'll be nervous too. You will be absolutely fine and wonder wot u were worried about an hour after u get there!

Good luck and be positive

PS Take a flask of tea/coffe with you and summat to eat (some biscuits) all of a sudden when you arrived and put him in the stable, you'll be starvin!!!

Promise!

Again, good luck - keep us posted
