Hi
My question's kind of urgent as I'm taking my riding exam on Friday 22nd! The bit that's freaking me out most is having to discuss the horses way of going. I believe it just involves the first three scales of training - rhythm, suppleness and contact. But if anyone asks me something my mind just goes blank! Has anyone got any experience of being asked these type of questions in this situation?
Am I blowing this particular part out of all proportion?
Please answer asap.
Thanks

hey from what I can remember they just ask you how you thought each horse went - so for example horse one was more supple on the right rein and was rushed in the trot. Horse two didn't move off the leg as easily - and then what you did to improve (transitions etc). Then got asked the aids for right canter (random lol)

Hope that helps a little bit - good luck

From what I can remember just give an evaluation of how it was initially, how you plan on improving it/ what you are doing to improve it/ what you did (depending when they ask you). Then what the result was & what you would concentrate on in the future. Try & say what your doing & to what purpose whenever you're asked too.

I was asked how I thought each one went and how I would improve if I could ride them more. One horse was a total git and Im not sure it should have been a stage two horse tbh. She asked what I could have done to improve his way of going and the first thing I said was "find out if it's whip shy" :o Was a very much speak before thinking moment but luckily she agreed with me! Remember to take a deep breath before you answer to give you time to think and make mental notes as you ride :)

Thanks to those answering my question about the BHS stage two. Much appreciated. I think this site is brilliant- it really connects people who care.
So, anyway, I've taken the dreaded exam and am awaiting results. I think the judge was really strict, sending some people off. At least she let me finish both phases of riding, so fingers crossed. The actual problem I had worrying about being asked about the way of going turned out to be really low key, although even then my mind seemed to go blank about keeping a horse in balance. At least she let me through to the jumping stage after that, so maybe I said something right!

Good luck for your results! When will you find out if youve passed? All sounds positive though, ill keep my fingers crossed for you!:D

Have only just discovered this thread.

I didn't know that BHS candidates now have to wait for the results of their Stage Exams. I took mine when the examiners gave the result on the day. (I remember riding five horses in total, including two in the jumping section).

Let us know your result when you get it!

I did mine in the day when you got the results on the same day too. It was great as you could really discuss things with the examiners. It changed as candidates were getting aggressive when they failed.:(

Good luck OP.x
