As title! Pony in question is a liver chestnut mud monster who has a coat that attracts dust and dirt like a magnet, and he lives out 24/7. We are off to a show on Sunday, so looking for tips on what I can wash/polish his coat with to give him a shine and gleam.
I have tried bathing him just before shows but it seems to strip the oils from his coat and he ends up dull, but can't bath too early or he just gets too dirty again - even with thorough brushing, his coat is like velcro to dust!!
Any suggestions or tips??

Shampoo with Wahl Copper Tones - enhances brown coats

Feed Outshine - maybe not enough time now but makes the coat shine AMAZINGLY

Rambo Dustbuster rug - or any nylon lined lightweight rug - helps add shine to the coat

I've had two livers and both had lovely shiney coats despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of grooming (one lived out too). Try feeding some micronised linseed.

What marmalade76 said. Shine comes from within. My liver chestnut is like teflon, nothing sticks to her and she always gleams. She's fed micronised linseed, normal vegetable oil was OK but the linseed is better.

But as a quick fix you cld try towelling with really hot water & vinegar. Really cuts thru the scurf.

try full fat soya from red mills instead of outshine. Its £14 a bag and you only feed half a scoop with each feed. Another vote for nylon lined rug. Or get a lycra bodysuit and rug up on top. For show shine try either alva horse show sprays or arboshine. Plaster on with a sponge and then wipe over with a bit of velvet and then for the ultimate glass like shine, spray arena shine spray (its sold in a can) over the top

I run a slightly damp terry square over the pony once we've arrived before tacking up. Takes all the dust off. Quickly! Then spray with coat conditioner, and remains looking good. We almost never bathe the pony, only wash his white socks.

Vinegar and hot towels on the day. Cheap and very effective.

On the longer term if you do a vinegar wipe most days the coat will stay nice.
