has anyone any tips of how to stop my horse pulling his bar shoes off infront. hes got straight bars infront and he wears over reach boots with them. The first lot he had on he kept on but this time round hes had one off every week!! the farrier was out friday to do my mare and he pulled one off friday night! it makes him lame when he looses one as hes got very sensitive feet so hes now hopping infront which is causing me concern that he will damage his hind leg further! (hairline fracture) iv padded his foot out and wrapped it up so hes more comfortable untill he has his shoe back on 2moro. But does anyone have any tips to stop him getting them off so often!

I've no idea why, but my horse's shoes got pulled off less when I started using the Eskadron over reach boots. Just the rubber and velcro ones, but about twice as expensive as regular rubber and velcro ones. They definitely seemed to make a difference though.

I may be talking out of my backside, but I seem to remember some people using gaffer tape or the like over the heels of normal shoes to make it less likely that the hind toe would be able to 'hook' into the front heel of shoe and pull it off. This I only saw during competition.

I believe this developed into use of a wide rubber band which fitted over the heels and round the front of the foot (obviously!!) but don't know if they are still made, who by or what they are called.

and of course, after a very sleep deprived night, there's always the chance I'm way off the mark. Might be worth a Google though.

:D

Overreach boots on 24/7 - and keep a spare set ! my blacksmith has said he will hit me if he ever sees my lad without them on and it has worked for the last 3 months !

hes had them on 24/7, hes on his second set soon to be his third as hes tearing chunks out of them. he has to had them fitted slightly bigger or they rub him rore in his heels so farrier advised fitting them slightly loosing so they "flop" about abit and they cover his whole hoof that way to. just cant seem to keep them on at the mo. farrier will be sick of me soon!

I've had the same problem with mine, the vet suggested trying sausage boots. He's only had them on 2 days but so far so good!

I'm having a similar problem with pads, the so & so has even managed to pull them off in the stable! I can't believe my farrier doesn't have my number barred :(

I'm now wrapping his fronts with vet wrap, then putting duck tape over that & finally big overreach boots (Woof Kevlar ones http://www.saddlery.biz/horse-cloth...s/woof-wear-kevlar-over-reach-boot-large.html ). Fingers crossed he hasn't had one off while I've been doing this but it does take ages to get him ready to go out in the morning!

duct tape with one size too big neoprene over reach boots meant i only lost one shoe in a whole hunting season :)
