Hello all!

I know you all have a wealth of experience out there so I hope you dont mind if I borrow some?!

I have backed my 3yr old this summer, he's a very big boy and growing like a weed! He is walk, trot and canter in the school. Very green, sometimes bending and dropping into an outline, sometimes not. Sometimes willing to work and sometimes a lazy plod - happily the ploddy days are getting few and far between.
He likes to work but on days where he is unbalanced (usually due to a growth spurt) he has been known to be naughty and do little bucks instead of going of into trot - nothing to worry about and on days like that I kick on and and dont let him away with it but tailor the session to make it easier for him.

He has gone on short hacks with his stable mate and once with a walker to stop him relying on his friend for confidence (que alot of shouting....from him!)
He has also gone out to a lesson at my instructors, again for a change od scene and to get him out of his comfort zone.

My question is..... with dark nights and a very soggy school and his stable mate out of action due to injury this winter (I cant hack him alone yet - his not very confident) how on earth do I keep him going over the winter???
Dont really want to turn him away as I will have to start all over again in the spring.

I hope his sable mate will be up for little hacks in a month.... fingers crossed!

Tips welcome...

Thanks
x

I would look at hacking him over the weekends, and maybe one or two 'quiet' evenings in the school.

He really doesn't need to be doing much - especially school work.
