Tips for pulling a VERY long mane?

Have decided as show season is starting, to pull Bobs mane. It wasnt done June onwards last year, due to injury, but somehow it has grown about a foot and half since then.
Its SO SO thick too, a good two inches of it on either side of his neck

So, how should I go about it? Just start pulling, or maybe trim with scissors first to get rid of the legnth?

I'd do it with a pulling rake. Belle's was very long when we started a few weeks ago, the pulling rake is really good for getting out large amounts of hair quickly and easily. I don't think they finish the job particularly though so I'd probably finish it by pulling it.

I would cut it to longer than ideal, and then pull it to ideal length

I would trim it to about 6cm longer than you want the end result, then start thinning it with a rake, then finish it off by pulling it. Do the pulling over several days so he doesn't get sore.

Id cut some off but longer than you want it, then pull it however shorter you want.

pull it, do NOT rake it! otherwise you might just as well have hogged it. pull it till same thickness all the way down then if still too long snip into it to desired lenght and pull the ends off. if really thick pull over a few times when horse is warm or hot.

Don't rake it!! and I wouldn't cut it it makes it harder to pull.

If its very long do it in two goes, easier for the horse.

I did a very long mane with a solo comb, to slightly longer than desired. I may pull next, but I hate doing it so may rake & solo comb it - never had a problem with that.

If you cut it you will find that it will probably stay too thick. Best just pull it in several goes until it is the length and thickness that you want.

I use my solo comb- gives a decent finish, and i really hate pulling manes, and they end up looking crap.

i would solo comb it slightly longer than you want it and then finish it off by pulling it so that he doesnt get sore by pulling it all at once.. or if your in no rush then just do a little bit each day
