Tips for recovering a straggly mane?

Over the summer Sid had to wear a fly sheet with a full neck to keep the pesky bugs off him. That worked great and he had a pretty bite free summer but it trashed his mane. Its straggly with bits missing and no matter what i try it looks a mess!
Any suggestions of products or something i could try to get his mane looking in good nick again? I keep pulling the long bits to get the dead ends off but the bits that are growing back in the "gaps" are growing really thick and outwards. It's also lost all its shine - it looks awful!
Help please to stop him looking like a refugee from a knackers yard!

Yeah thought of that AmyMay but i think he'd look really daft! The short hair that's coming back is really thick now so wouldn't hogging make him look like he'd got an affro as i tried to grown it back?

That happened to my boy last winter....Had a half neck that was rubbbing his main and he ended up with only half a main. I just left it and dint brush or nothing and its fine now......Only took a few months. I wont be wearing that half neck this year!!

Try some megatek to encourage quick regrowth. Then next summer mix it 50 - 50 with water and rub into the roots and mane every other day to help keep the hair strong - it is good stuff.

Personally I avoid neck covers like the plague - but then I have a gypsy cob whose mane is my pride and joy.

ive never had problems with neck covers, but lost a chunk of mane where his freind chewed it, megatek is amazing

cornucresine!!! give a good rub in once or twice a week, all the way along, my boy had no mane in june... its now got length and i can actually plait it!!
