Hi

My new horse has quite a weak-looking back in that he has zero topline and so his back drops down.

I've just had a new saddle fitted so we're ready to go with schooling and fittening work.

Other than a pessoa-style lunging aid, does anyone have any other tips for building his muscle specifically across his back both under saddle and unridden.

I've searched about and people mention hill work. How much hill work? We don't have amazing hacking but do have a couple of hilly bits we can trot up (mainly roadwork).

I also plan to start doing some carrot stretches in the stable to encourage him to stretch down.

He's gone from being in overnight fed hay from a manger to 24/7 turnout so head-down pretty much all the time (other than when he comes in to be fed and ridden). I assume this will help too.

Thank you!! xx
