This has probably been done to death before, but could you give me any tips please on how to get a grey clean, without bathing.

I was going to put a couple of capfuls of dettol in a bucket of warm water and sponge stable and grass stains away.

But do you have any other tips please? I've not owned my grey for long! Thank you.

Clip em and cover them up from head to toe

Good old elbow greese, 7 day mud away (stops the mud from sticking to the coats) and just keep the body covered with a light weight rug/summer sheet/mesh fly sheet also keep the worst off etc

Various stain remover or dry shampoo products, I used a dog one, a blue foaming shampoo which you dont have to rinse out, rub it out with dry towel and it worked a treat!! I'll see if I can find out what they called it, they use it for long coated show dogs which removes yellow stains from around the mouths...anyway it removed grass stains and all sorts!

Get some good hair black hair dye - should last 6-8 weeks with a rug on!!!

lol i wish!!! My grey always gets dirty no matter what!

Thanks all. I'm amazed how dirty my grey can get. I groom him every night when I bring him in and get his grass stains off and mud stains (he's in a summer weight rug to keep body clean). By morning we have a new set of stains. Poo pillow stains. I can't keep up with him.

Kenzo, yes please, I'd love to know the name of the dog shampoo you mention.

thanks everyone.

I add a slosh of Lavender Wash to the Dettol with very hot water, use a tea towel or flannel and wring it out then scrub, it works wonders even on those last minute panic stains you only find when you about to leave for hunting!

I've just learnt to live with it I'm afraid.

His head and the top of his neck never look clean during the winter.

What you do is keep them stabled 24hours so they dont go out and roll in the wettest muddiest patch they can find, wrap them up in various rugs including a snuggy hood so they dont get poo on them, you only ride on dry ground, plait the tail up and fix it so they only have a stump so they cant poo down it and if all else fails you go out and buy a Bay!
These are all things I haven't done but reguarly threatened to my hippo of a grey. lol

Thanks everyone!

Life is not fair - I have a bay as well but he never lies in his bed or gets poo stains etc. My new grey is a minger. Lies in everything mucky he can. Monster.

thank you all.
