Tips to get suncream on a nose?!

My 2 that need it hate it too, but they accept now that they have to have it on!!! I dont think they will ever 'like' it!!

I just loop my hand round their head (as if putting a bridle on) and smear it all over their muzzles....and up their nose a bit!!! Poor things, but it does seem to save the burnt noses, so it must be worth it! I wonder how they would manage in the wild?

I use the sticks that you would use on kids.

You can get a Boots Soltan one off Ebay for about £1.99. They are a really high factor (30+), waterproof and they come in cool colours so you can see where you have put it.

They are quite thick and waxy so it doesn't drip off.

Give you a giggle in the morning as well when your horse goes out with a blue, green or even red nose!!!

I've had comments off people that even in the afternoon my horses still have it on so i know it lasts.

I used to put a blob of suncream on my fingers then a blob of molasses on the heel of my hand. Then if you stand by your horses shoulder and offer the molasses you can rub in the suncream while they are licking ;) You may have to do it a couple of times with just the molasses first depending on how suspicious he is.

Either that or offer a handful of feed from a round feed scoop with a dollop of suncream on the inside - same idea really

My mare is fine to put it on so cannot help you with your problem, my problem is that as soon as I put hers on she wipes it off on the grass. It does help her but I still have to put on her sudocrem to soothe any sunburn she has at the end of the day when the sun is going down.

I gave up a long time ago as there were always bits rubbed off that burnt and he was becoming difficult to catch in the mornings. Get on much better with a full face fly mask :)

Yes, funnily enough my mare isn't at all bothered about me putting on her fly repellant without a headcollar on her, but I've got to put one on her to apply her sunblock and even then she is uncharacteristically evasive. I've actually given up on the thicker products, as she does try and wipe it off on anyone and anything, including my little dog :D I now use the barrier hygiene stuff:

Which protects and soothes. It soaks in quite nicely so she can't wipe it off and is the best stuff I've found in quite a number of summers with my pink nosed girl :)

I tend to get a firm grip under the headcollar and apply it by hand. With carrots and polos she has got much better about letting me put it on.

Mine is like The Snoopster's - no problem getting it on (though his face says it all) but the minute I stop at the yard gate to open it to go through to take him to the field he's rubbed it all off down the back of whatever I'm wearing! Then he lies down in the field to roll and rubs his nose really vigorously on the ground...glad I'm stopping the grass from getting sunburnt
