Am I the only one who has to work their horse extra hard the day before an event to keep the lid on?
Having not ridden yesterday as feeling unwell, I lunged today up to 1.30(jumping) and had him a bit blowy and tired by the end.
Tomorrow he'll get lunged before the dressage to settle him and he will still bounce around the place

Sigh...it's fine when you want the speed cross country, but not in the dressage!

I dont ride any of mine before an event as I like them fresh! Although, like you say its quite "fun" in the dressage if eventing....! Id prefer them to have a quick "moment" in the dressage than to have them knackered for the SJ and XC!

Hope he behaves tomorrow

When i had Rodney i never ued to ride the day before an event as i needed him as fresh as poss, but now i have Sunny its a completely different story! She is too fit for her own good and doesnt get tired!

I think most eventers suffer the same with the eventer in the dressage don't they! My Dutch wasn't an eventer, though he did enjoy jumping and had done XC but he was always sparking on a show day with the odd woosh here and there!

So this is not really a help but I know what you go through, probably just hack the dressage, try not to tense up in your efforts to keep him contained!!

I don't tire mine out, but I do give them a flatwork session day before an event. If they are great, I don't do more than about 15 minutes and go for a hack as well, if they are not so great...the schooling session may be longer!

welll...it failed miserably!
Pinged around the stressage, was a pig in the warm up and slightly conrtrollable in the SJ(succesful there maybe?)
strong xc, didn't stop pulling but finished ready to go again!(clear)
Yes, lots of tense horses in dressage, just annoying as if you could just get it....arrgh!
Also gets him up in the air for jumping which is good!
